Overclocking Performance - Applications
It's no surprise to see the X58 Pro become noticeably faster when it's overclocked. It's almost as obvious as saying you shouldn't start a
World of Warcraft session if it's midnight and you've got work tomorrow, or that a human being really can't live off Jolt Cola and pizza alone.
The speed boost from the 2.66GHz default speed of the Core i7 920 to 3.9GHz is large though, and it's great that such a relatively cheap board would benchmark stably with the CPU at this frequency.
With the question mark over stability when running intensive applications across both the CPU and GPU, we'd not recommend running this overclock every day. However, it does show that a 3.4-3.6GHz everyday overclock is viable - just remember to give the chipset heatsink some active cooling.
